Exhibition
Toxic Beauty: The Art of Frank Moore
September 6 - December 8, 2012
New York University’s Grey Art Gallery and Fales Library
100 Washington Square East and 70 Washington Square South, 3rd Floor
This exhibition surveys the career of a remarkable artist whose life was cut short by AIDS. In figurative paintings filled with fantastic and symbolic imagery, Frank Moore (1953–2002) addressed themes drawn from American visual culture, the state of the healthcare and farming industries, and his personal life. His paintings often explore human effects on the natural environment in, as he noted, “sites of great, but toxic, beauty.” Major paintings, works on paper, sketchbooks, and films by the artist will be on view.
